Kuang-Fu Sports Field follows in the footsteps of Cheng-Kung Sports Field as another of the large sports grounds on NCKU’s campus. According to NCKU President Luo Yun-ping, NCKU attaches great importance to the physical education of students, hopes students will be equally comfortable in motion and at rest, and aims to balance intellectual development and physical education. In addition to building a new gym, expanding the sports field was also a priority. Kuang-Fu Sports Field was constructed in a low-lying area, and the soil needed to fill in the construction site was excavated from a plot of land adjacent to the College of Liberal Arts. This is how Cheng Kung Lake came to be.
Kuang-Fu Sports Field is one of the school’s most comprehensive sports fields. It provides great assistance to students receiving physical education instruction and engaging in physical exercise. This is also where many athletic clubs hold their activities, as well as the location of the opening ceremony when NCKU hosted the National University and College Athletic Games.
光復操場，是自成功操場之後，校園中出現另一座大型運動場。據羅雲平校長的描述，成大對於學生體育教學的重視，希望學生動靜皆宜，智育與體育均衡發展。當時除了新建體育館外，增加大運動場也是重要的目標。為了新建位於低窪地的光復操場，需要額外的土方填平，於是計畫從文學院館側旁挖取，形成了現今的成功湖。
光復操場，是學校最完善的運動場之一，對於體育教學、學生體魄鍛鍊，都有許多幫助。這裡也是許多體能性社團的活動場所，更是成大舉辦全國大專運動會開幕的場地。
