The Main Library was completed and inaugurated in 2001. It was built on a site previously occupied by Cheng-Kung Sports Field, and jointly designed by P.S. Chen & Partners Architects & Planners and M.H. Li & Partners Architects & Planners. Their design concept respected and reestablished the central axis of the campus. They used the characteristics of the site to pull in and integrate surrounding activity nodes into the green plaza, enabling the correlation of various activities. For the interior, the architects used slanted skylights to introduce natural light, taking full advantage of southern Taiwan’s abundant sunshine. They also used aluminum louvers to allow lights and shadows to play across the interior.
