Ge-Chi Hall, completed in 1934, was the first large lecture hall of NCKU. Today, it is designated by Tainan City as a historic site. The front of the building features Roman-style architectural rectangles, and the entryways and corridors to the east and west are adorned with yellow-brown glazed bricks. A common impression of science and engineering students at the time was "Black Friday," which generally referred to calculus, general physics, and general chemistry exams being held in the building on Fridays. The building was dubbed "Slaughterhouse" for the difficulty of these exams. Rumor has it that the ponds on either side of the building are replenished by the tears of struggling exam-takers.
