Old Main Library is located on Sheng-Li Campus and was completed in 1959. It is one of the most representative modernist buildings from the post-war, U.S.-aid period. It has the form of a square box. Under the modernist design concept of form follows function, its simple horizontal and vertical lines are emphasized, presenting a geometric shape with an aesthetically pleasing sense of proportion and scale. A rear building was added in 1975. Library services were moved to the new Main Library on Cheng-Kung Campus in 2001, and the original reading room was converted into a self-study space that students dubbed “K Hall.” The front building was designated as a municipal historic site in 2016. After renovations, it became “Future Venue.”
