Cheng Kung Lake is an artificial lake located next to the College of Liberal Arts. To construct what would become Kuang-Fu Sports Field after obtaining Kuang-Fu military installation in 1966, NCKU excavated soil from a nearby plot of land. It then turned the depression into a lake and used the lake scenery to cultivate a scholarly temperament. Shortly after, the Minor West Gate was moved nearby. Together with the adjacent Banyan Garden, this area has become an open green space that is beloved by students, teachers, and residents alike.
The original landscape elements of rockery and cairns were traditional Chinese garden design elements. An arch bridge later connected the shore and the island at the center of the lake, adding many spatial layers. It’s said that the school’s American football team started the baptism ceremony of throwing new graduates into the lake. Cheng Kung Lake is one of the few places on campus with a romantic atmosphere, so it’s a place that inspires relationships, nature sketches, and expressions of emotions. It’s also a favorite spot of student clubs.
